Statement by India at the Organizational Meeting of HRC for the 16th cycle of the Human Rights Council, delivered by Ambassador Indra Mandi Pandey, Permanent Representative of India

Madam President,

Thank you for giving me the floor. A very good afternoon to you and all the distinguished PRs and delegates. We congratulate you and Members of the Bureau on successful conduct of the Human Rights Council this year.  We appreciate your efforts towards steering the Council in spite of the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic.

  1. We commend you and the Bureau for organizing consultations as well as informal exchange of views among various stakeholders to promote dialogue and cooperation for smooth functioning of the Council. We appreciate the series of informal consultations led by you and your team on efficiency measures and the functioning of the Special Procedure Mandate Holders etc.
  1. Despite the immense challenges to the Council, due to both difficult financial situation as well as Covid-19 pandemic, it is heartening that we have been able to strike a balance between the efficiency and the quality of our work. We support continuation of the existing measures for another one year. We support various decisions taken together by the Council for organizational work.
  1. I congratulate H.E. PR of Argentina for his election as President of the Council. We are looking forward to working closely with the Bureau and members of the Council and will extend our full cooperation.
