Statement by India under Agenda Item 6 : Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Bulgaria at the 46th Session of the Human Rights Council (22 February – 23 March 2021) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India

Madam President,

India welcomes the delegation of Bulgaria for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review and its support to the UPR mechanism.

2. It is commendable that the review saw a substantive participation with as many as 91 member States taking the floor and making a total of 233 recommendations. India appreciates that as many as 210 recommendations have been accepted by Bulgaria including of, the recommendation made by India. India also appreciates the constructive engagement by the delegation of Bulgaria during the entire review, which reflects the strong commitment, Bulgaria attaches to the UPR process. 

3. We note that during the review process, Bulgaria informed the steps taken on fighting COVID-19 pandemic focusing on necessary support to the health care system extended to the most vulnerable groups of its population.

4. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Bulgaria for a successful review and wish them all success in efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
