Madam President,

India does not favour country specific resolutions.

We have been following the developments in Tigray region and the consequent humanitarian situation closely. The humanitarian situation continues to remain a matter of serious concern. We are cognizant of the steps taken by the Ethiopian Government, including the unilateral humanitarian ceasefire, to address the humanitarian situation. We are also aware that the Ethiopian government has been facilitating the work of humanitarian agencies to provide relief.

We welcome the Ethiopian Government’s steps to cooperate with the OHCHR and take note that a joint investigation by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commissioner and the OHCHR is underway in Ethiopia. We note Ethiopia’s commitments towards fulfillment of its international and national human rights obligations. In this regard, we note the statement of the Ethiopian Government affirming its commitment to undertake thorough investigations and bring those responsible to justice.

I thank you, Madam President.
