Amandeep Singh Gill

Amandeep Singh Gill is India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva since November 2016.  He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992.

Amandeep Gill has served abroad at the Indian Mission to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, the Indian Embassy in Tehran, the High Commission of India in Colombo and the Indian Mission to the UN in Geneva.  At headquarters in New Delhi, he has served thrice in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division as well as once in the United Nations Division.  He served as the Head of the Disarmament and International Security Division in the Ministry of External Affairs from 2013 until 2016. 

He has also served as an expert on the UN Secretary General’s panel of experts on the Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT), Small Arms and Light Weapons and on Missiles.   He is currently Chair of the CCW Group of Governmental Experts on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems. He is a member of the UNSG’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters.  He participated in the UN Disarmament Fellowship Programme in 1999.

Amandeep Gill has a B Tech in engineering from Punjab University, Chandigarh and an Advanced Diploma in French History and Language from Geneva University.  During 2008-2009, he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) on an Asia Foundation regional security studies fellowship.  His PhD degree at the Department of War Studies in King’s College, London is on Nuclear Learning in Multilateral Forums.  As a scholar he has contributed to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, the Lowy Institute, the East West Institute, the Center for a New American Security and the Indian Economic and Social History Review.

Amandeep Gill was born in 1968 in Chandigarh.  He is married to Ashma Singh and has a daughter (Bani) and a son (Ujjay).  His personal interests include creative writing, yoga and sustainable agriculture.  His first book of poems in English was published by Wisdom Tree in 2016.
